SMS Seating Advice |
|
We developed our SMS Seating Advice for people who are involved in giving advice on or providing specially adapted wheelchairs for daily, long-term use. You may, for example, be a physiotherapist or an ergotherapist, a consultant or adviser for the inclusion of people with disabilities, or you may work for company that supplies rehabilitation aids. SMS stands for Sit Measurement System. SMS Seating Advice makes it possible to carry out an objective analysis and selection of the most adequate seat and back supports.
Anatomically sound stability |
In order to achieve optimal sitting circumstances for an individual wheelchair user, it is necessary to adjust the wheelchair in such a way that the user adopts the correct postural angles when sitting in it. Correct sitting posture angles give the body anatomically sound stability. Once this has been achieved an analysis needs to be carried out to see which seat and back supports result in the best distribution of pressure.
Research has been done involving people who give advice on and/or who supply wheelchairs for daily, long-term use. It was shown that there is a demand for an objective analysis of sitting posture and seating support for use in wheelchairs.
